Nordic Lights - An Evening of Finnish Music
Join us for an unforgettable evening of Finnish music at the Ras Al Khaimah Cultural Development Centre on December 13th at 19:30 hrs. The concert, "Nordic Lights" is held under the auspices of the Embassy of Finland in the UAE and features internationally renowned Finnish musicians - cellist Jussi Makkonen and pianist Nazig Azezian, alongside the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Riad Kudsi.
The program includes the UAE premiere of Nordic Adagio, composed by Tuomas Kantelinen for Makkonen and Azezian, marking their first collaboration with the orchestra. The concert also features Jean Sibelius' iconic works, arranged for cello and piano.
Makkonen and Azezian, celebrated worldwide for their performances of Sibelius, have received numerous accolades, including a platinum record for their 2017 album Melody Forest and the Finlandia Foundation National’s "Award of Excellence" in 2019 for promoting Finnish music in the U.S. Makkonen plays a 1757 Henry Jay cello.

After the performance, join us for a meet & greet with the musicians in the auditorium at 8:15 pm.
