About
The Smashing Pumpkins is bringing their Tour Rock Invasion 2025 to Abu Dhabi!
The Smashing Pumpkins are one of the most iconic and influential bands in modern music history. Since forming in Chicago in 1988, the band has consistently defied conventions—musically, visually, and culturally—cementing their status as trailblazers in the alternative rock movement. With over 30 million albums sold worldwide, their enduring legacy is marked by critical acclaim, commercial success, and an unwavering creative vision. They’ve earned two GRAMMY® Awards, seven MTV Video Music Awards, and an American Music Award, but their real impact lies in how they reshaped the sound and look of a generation.
Their discography helped define the alternative era. The 1991 debut Gish introduced their unique blend of dreamy textures and heavy guitars, while 1993’s Siamese Dream propelled them into the mainstream, achieving quadruple-platinum status. The 1995 double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was a genre-defying opus that went on to earn diamond certification and continues to be hailed as a defining work of the decade. Both Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are featured in Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”
With Adore (1998), the band explored darker, more electronic territory, while Machina/The Machines of God (2000) expanded their sound into theatrical and conceptual realms. Throughout their career, The Smashing Pumpkins have also created a powerful visual legacy—from the wistful album art of Siamese Dream and the iconic “Zero” T-shirt to the suburban dreamscape of the “1979” video and the gothic flair of “Ava Adore.” Their live performances remain a spectacle, with immersive visuals, layered sound, and the same emotional intensity that first captivated audiences decades ago.
Following lineup shifts and time away from the spotlight, The Smashing Pumpkins returned to full force with founding members Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin reuniting. In 2018, they released Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. and launched a major arena tour that brought their timeless sound to new generations. This momentum continued with the release of CYR (2020), a synth-heavy double album, and ATUM (2023), an ambitious rock opera that serves as a conceptual sequel to both Mellon Collie and Machina.
In 2024, the band released Aghori Mhori Mei, written in the immediate aftermath of ATUM. The album marks a return to their roots, with a raw, guitar-driven sound that channels the spirit of their early ’90s canon. It’s a powerful reminder of what made the band so groundbreaking in the first place—soaring riffs, propulsive drums, and Billy Corgan’s unmistakable voice cutting through the noise.
Decades into their career, The Smashing Pumpkins continue to evolve while staying true to their singular artistic vision. Their influence can be felt across generations, and their live shows remain some of the most anticipated events in rock music today.
