About
Stereophonics are coming to Coca-Cola Arena with their No Hit Left Behind Tour
Stereophonics are one of the UK’s most enduring and celebrated rock bands, known for their anthemic sound, compelling lyrics, and powerful live performances. Formed in the early ’90s in the Welsh village of Cwmaman, the band began life as Tragic Love Company—three childhood friends performing in working men’s clubs around South Wales. The name change to Stereophonics, inspired by the brand of drummer Stuart Cable’s grandmother’s gramophone, marked the beginning of a remarkable journey.
Signed in 1996 as the first act on Richard Branson’s V2 label, Stereophonics burst onto the scene with Looks Like Chaplin, leading to support slots with fellow British rock icons Manic Street Preachers and Ocean Colour Scene. Their debut album Word Gets Around followed in 1997, spawning fan-favourites like Local Boy in the Photograph, More Life in a Tramp’s Vest, and A Thousand Trees.
With a sound rooted in raw rock ’n’ roll and gritty storytelling, Stereophonics gained a devoted following. Their sophomore release Performance and Cocktails arrived in 1999, featuring hits like The Bartender and the Thief and Just Looking, and went platinum within three weeks of release. By the turn of the millennium, they had secured their place as a major force in British rock, earning a BRIT Award for Best New Band and headlining massive shows, including a landmark concert at Cardiff Castle.
Over the following decade, the band’s success only grew. They released a string of chart-topping albums—Just Enough Education to Perform (2001), You Gotta Go There to Come Back (2003), Language. Sex. Violence. Other? (2005), and Pull The Pin (2007)—each cementing their reputation for creating timeless music that spans generations. Their 2005 single Dakota became their first UK No.1 and remains a defining anthem of the era.
Through various lineup changes, including the tragic passing of original drummer Stuart Cable in 2010, Stereophonics continued to evolve. Longtime frontman Kelly Jones, with his signature gravelly vocals and sharp lyrical observations, remained the creative driving force. Albums like Graffiti on a Train (2013) and Keep the Village Alive (2015) showcased their continued relevance, both critically and commercially.
Kelly’s songwriting has always drawn inspiration from everyday life—whether it’s childhood memories, late-night adventures, or quiet moments at home. This personal approach shaped records like Scream Above the Sounds (2017), influenced by time spent in Shanghai, and Kind (2019), a stripped-back and emotional release that topped the UK charts.
Beyond studio albums, the band has cultivated a reputation for their electrifying live shows, from intimate acoustic sets to sold-out stadiums. In 2020, Kelly shared a new side of their legacy with the solo album and documentary Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day, capturing reimagined classics and untold stories behind the music.
In 2022, the band released their 12th album Oochya!, featuring the explosive lead single Hanging On Your Hinges. Bursting with the garage rock energy and optimism that have always been part of their DNA, it marked another high point in a career defined by reinvention, resilience, and connection with fans.
With over 25 years of hits, platinum albums, and unforgettable performances, Stereophonics remain a defining voice in modern rock. Their legacy continues to grow—one powerful chorus, one stadium anthem, and one story-driven lyric at a time.
